Important Notice - In view of relaxation on travel, postal applications for attestation services from residents of ONTARIO stand discontinued w.e.f. October 27, 2021. Full details can be viewed here.

NRI (Non Resident Indian) Certificate is issued to persons holding Indian passport to enable them sponsor their near relatives for admission under NRI quota in educational institutions in India. This service may be applied in the Consulate between 0930-1230 hrs on working days.

Documents Required:

Miscellaneous Services Form – Download and fill the Miscellaneous application form (click here) paste picture and sign at appropriate place

Original Indian passport and photocopy of pages of the Indian passport with visas/arrival/departure immigration stamps
Original and a copy of Immigration Documents (PR Card, Landing Paper, Work Permit..Etc.). . {send notarized copy if sending by mail}.
A letter stating / explaining why you require the NRI Certificate and the relevant documents. (for example: name of the person being sponsored by you, copy his/her valid ID AND documents pertaining to his/her admission to the universality/ college in India).
Copy of Proof of Address in Canada (Name, address and ID copy of the person applying for NRI certificate. (Landline telephone bill/electricity bill/gas bill/water bill or Driving License or lease deed (of residence) etc. where the applicant’s Canadian address is clearly mentioned, should be provided)
Fees should be paid through Money order or Demand Draft or money order ONLY, drawn in favor of the ‘Consulate General of India, Toronto. For fee please refer to https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/page/consular-fees/
