Ambassador Dinesh Bhatia assumed the charge of Consul General of India, Toronto on 9 March 2016.Prior to joining the current post, His Excellency Mr. Dinesh Bhatia was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Liberia with residence in Abidjan. He was conferred Commander of the National Order of Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.

During his diplomatic career, Amb Bhatia has served in various specialized jobs in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi including Head of Multilateral Economic Division; Deputy Chief of Protocol; Director in Latin America and Caribbean Division, External Publicity Division and Foreign Service Institute; and Deputy Secretary dealing with Bhutan.

Amb Bhatia has served in various Indian Missions abroad including Madrid, Spain; Kathmandu, Nepal; and Kuwait. He was seconded by the Government to Department of Atomic Energy, Mumbai and as Private Secretary to the Tourism Minister, Government of India.

Amb Bhatia joined Indian Foreign Service in 1992and was trained at LBSNAA, Mussoorie and Foreign Service Institute, New Delhi.He participated in the 4thJoint Civil Military Course on National Security at LBSNAA. He is an alumnus of National Defence College (NDC).He authored “Physics for Civil Services Preliminary Examination” published by MnM Series.

Amb Bhatia obtained Bachelor of Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering with specialization in Electronics and Communication in 1989 and worked in private sector – Tata Telecom and Unitel Communications– before joining the Indian Foreign Service. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and Member of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.

Amb Bhatia was born in September 1967 at New Delhi, India. He is married to Mrs. Seema Bhatia, Ayurvedic Practitioner, Psychologist and Hypnotherapist, and blessed with a daughter and a son. He speaks Hindi, English, Spanish, Punjabi and Multani.
