Procedure for issuing Life Certificate

Consulate General of India, Toronto organizes Consular camps every year in the month of October/November to issue Life Certificates to Indian/ Canadian pensioners resident in its consular jurisdiction. 

This year, Consular camps will be organized at various places in October/November 2020. 

In view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation this year, walk-in service is suspended. During the camps that will be organized by the Consulate, health guidelines of the Canadian Government including covering the face with mask/shield, maintain social distance, will be observed. Hence, the frequency and the duration of the camps will be enhanced. The dates and venues will be notified soon by the Consulate. Those who cannot avail the facility of these consular camps may send their required documents by post/courier to the Consulate for issuance of Life Certificate. 

Please note that no fee is charged by the Consulate for issuance of Life Certificate. If anybody comes across any instance of fee being charged, such incident should be brought to our notice at cons.toronto@mea.gov.in.

Documents required to be submitted:

  • Duly filled in application form (Click here)- To be submitted in duplicate.
  • Valid Indian/Canadian passport 
  • Copy of the first and last page of Indian passport or copy of first page of Canadian passport, as applicable
  • Address proof: Copy of driving license or utility bill or any other document issued by Canadian Government which shows the residential address of the applicant
  • Self addressed prepaid envelope for return of serviced document by the Consulate
  • Fee: Gratis


Since the Life Certificate is a document which proves that the person is alive, physical verification is important. Hence, applicant should come in person to the Consulate/ Consular camp, unless it has been agreed to do the verification remotely through video chat, etc. for which the applicant should provide his/her mobile number to the Consulate

At Consulate: 2-3 working days (excluding time taken in post)
