Indian passport holders having handwritten passports or whose passports validity was extended in handwritten manner are requested to get their passports renewed with the machine readable passport booklets immediately.

            In accordance with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Indian passports which were handwritten or passports whose validity was extended in handwritten manner will not be valid for international travel henceforth. The validity of some such passports was extended in handwritten manner by this Consulate during the years 2010 -2016.  Though most of the passports in existence are printed and machine readable, it is possible that some of the applicants are still carrying passports whose validity was extended in handwritten manner.  

2.         All Indian passport holders whose passports are either hand written or whose passport’s validity was extended in handwritten manner are requested to get their passports renewed with the machine readable passport booklets.  This may be done immediately to avoid any problem in travelling abroad.
