Advisory for Canadian Nationals/OCI card holders considering travel to India or in  India during COVID-19

  • To help foreign nationals presently in India, the Government of India has decided that regular visa, e-visa or stay stipulation of such foreign nationals, including Canadian nationals, who have been stranded in India because of COVID19 pandemic and whose visas have expired or would be expiring till the date on which prohibition on international air travel of passengers from India is lifted by the Government of India , would be extended on ‘Gratis’ basis, that is, without payment of due fees, on submission of online application. Such extension would be granted for a period up to 30 days from the date of lifting of prohibition on international air travel. In this regard, applicants are required to get in touch with the concerned FRRO in India - https://indianfrro.gov.in/eservices/home.jsp
  • In case of Canadian Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders who are already in India, the OCI card shall remain valid for stay in India for any length of time.
  • All existing visas granted to Canadian nationals except those belonging to diplomatic, official, UN/International Organizations, employment and project categories shall remain suspended till the prohibition on international air travel of passengers from/to India is lifted by the Government of India.
  • Validity of OCI cards for visa free travel to India shall continue to be kept in abeyance till the prohibition on international air travel of passengers from/to India is lifted by the Government of India. Any OCI card holder wishing to travel to India for compelling reasons may approach the High Commission or the nearest Indian Consulate.
  • All scheduled international commercial passenger flights to India shall remain suspended till 2359 hrs IST on May 17, 2020.
